New Way Social and Development Organization (NSDO) is a Kabul-based development, advocacy, and humanitarian organization founded in 2011. Registered with the Ministry of Economy, Government of Afghanistan, NSDO operates in Kabul and across the north and northeastern provinces. NSDO focuses on empowering vulnerable and marginalized communities affected by war, natural calamities, poverty, and injustice. The organization is committed to integrated development, addressing socio-economic, cultural, and good governance aspects, with a core strategy of community empowerment.

Job Description:

  1. As a Project Manager for Agriculture and Rural Development, you will lead the planning, implementation, and supervision of projects to empower rural communities. Key responsibilities include:
  2. Lead the planning, implementation, and supervision of all project activities, ensuring compliance with the approved project document, work plan, and budget.
  3. Manage the project team, ensuring clear roles, effective communication, and coordination, and high-performance standards.
  4. Establish and maintain strong working relationships with government authorities, private sector actors, civil society organizations, beneficiaries, and stakeholders at provincial and district levels.
  5. Adopt a participatory, community-based, and market-driven approach, involving all relevant stakeholders in identifying needs, priorities, opportunities, and solutions.
  6. Provide technical guidance on diversification of food/income sources, establishment of FFSs, improvement in kitchen gardens, greenhouses, and indigenous livestock keeping at household levels.
  7. Guide the establishment of Village Economic and Social Associations (VESA) at the village level, providing financial literacy and numeracy training, livelihood planning discussions, and seasonal risk management discussions.
  8. Ensure integration of cross-cutting issues such as gender equality, women’s empowerment, and social cohesion in all project activities.
  9. Monitor progress and performance against agreed indicators, targets, and milestones, using appropriate tools and methods.
  10. Prepare regular narrative reports on project activities, achievements, challenges, and lessons learned for internal management and external reporting to the donor.
  11. Identify potential risks and challenges, developing mitigation measures and contingency plans under the supervision of the Program Manager.
  12. Supervise, monitor, and follow up with the project team’s activities and operations.
  13. Conduct staff meetings on a weekly basis with provincial teams for better coordination, implementation, and addressing challenges.
  14. Facilitate learning and knowledge sharing among the project team, partners, and stakeholders on best practices, innovations, and lessons learned.
  15. Coordinate project activities and operations regularly with governmental and non-governmental organizations.
  16. Attend sectoral meetings, presenting NSDO’s operations within the context of the project to relevant authorities and organizations.
  17. Perform any other tasks assigned by the Program Manager.

Job Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in agriculture, rural development, natural resources management, environmental studies, economics, or a related field. Knowledge of project management is an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in managing complex and large-scale projects.
  • Proven expertise in community resilience, Agro business value chain development, conflict sensitivity, market analysis, value chain upgrading, and quality standards.
  • Strong knowledge of the socio-economic, political, and environmental context of Afghanistan, especially in rural areas affected by climate change and conflict.
  • Excellent leadership, management, and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and coordinate a diverse team of staff and partners.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to adapt to changing situations and cope with challenges.
  • Excellent report writing skills, producing clear, concise, and quality reports for internal management and external reporting to the donor.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Dari and/or Pashto is an asset.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and other relevant project management software applications.
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently to project sites in Ghazni and Maidan Wardak provinces.
