Job Description:

Position Summary:

The Accountant plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely reporting, records management, and documentation related to grants. Reporting directly to the Dy/Head of Finance, the Accountant will support day-to-day cash management, banking activities, account reconciliations, and overall financial reporting.

Responsibilities:

  1. Support the cashier in day-to-day cash management and banking activities.
  2. Verify invoices, bills, documents, and payrolls before payment.
  3. Record costs according to project budgets.
  4. Review monthly balance reconciliation sheets.
  5. Develop and maintain grant, activity, account, and cost center codes in the accounting system.
  6. Compare entries with original vouchers to ensure accurate recording.
  7. Ensure regional offices receive efficient accounting system support.
  8. Maintain and record all adjustments in the system.
  9. Follow Afghanistan Government tax policies for financial transactions.
  10. Oversee ongoing maintenance of accounts.
  11. Ensure correct preparation and maintenance of payrolls.
  12. Compile, analyze, and report financial data.
  13. Prepare periodic reports, including balance sheets and profit & loss statements.
  14. Maintain accurate financial records.
  15. Provide supporting documents for donor reports and audits.
  16. Reconcile accounts, taxes, accruals, and cashbooks.
  17. Keep track of all taxes to be paid on time.
  18. Assist in budget tracking and forecasting.
  19. Edit and review reports, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  20. Compile and format reports as required.
  21. Attend internal and external meetings as needed.
  22. Responsible for monthly cash forecasting.
  23. Prepare status reports for management and government departments.
  24. Assist in annual and project auditing.
  25. Ensure full implementation of NAC’s finance and admin manual, policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  26. Travel and work in regional offices as required.
  27. Perform any other tasks assigned by the Head of Finance and Country Director/Deputy Country Director.

Job Requirements:

Language Requirements:

Dari and Pashto (Fluent)

English (Excellent)

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Business Administration or B.A in Finance/Accounting.

MBA degree/accredited qualification from accountancy bodies such as ACCA is a plus.

Work Experience:

5 years of work experience in finance and accounting in NGO/INGOs or Private companies.

Extensive experience in QuickBooks and report generation is a must.

  • Excellent decision-making skills.
  • Strong accounting and finance management skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including IFRS and IAS.
  • Strong computer & Microsoft Office skills.
  • Strong math skills with an ability to spot numerical errors.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Ability to work under pressure, during late hours, and weekends as required.
  • Strong attention to detail and good analytical skills.
