Job Description:

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Specific tasks/responsibilities under livestock/livelihood improvement:
  • Conduct needs assessments, surveys, and focus group discussions regarding livestock requirements.
  • Implement livestock activities, including training lead farmers, smallholder farmers, and community elders on new and innovative livestock practices.
  • Design livestock activities and training for implementation at the village, district, and individual beneficiary levels.
  • Facilitate the delivery of veterinary services to project beneficiaries through civil society groups/communities.
  • Identify training needs for poultry, ruminant, BVWs beneficiaries, and organize/conduct such training.
  • Construct or rehabilitate poultry and livestock-related structures and assist smallholder farmers in fodder production.
  • Diagnose, survey, and report livestock disease outbreaks and facilitate the provision of medicine and vaccines through civil society groups in case of an outbreak.
  • Support the identification of improved ruminant and poultry breeds and supply livestock-related inputs to project beneficiaries.
  • Ensure the integration of livestock activities with other NAC sectoral activities.
  • Uphold the role and responsibilities in line with NAC’s Safeguarding Policy.
  • Provide appropriate and timely feedback, inputs, and suggestions/recommendations to supervisors on matters concerning livestock development and activities.
  • Coordinate with DAIL, other Governmental Agencies, and NGOs to leverage support for livestock activities.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the regional program coordinator and head of the regional office.

Reporting:

  • Coordinate with the line manager for the completion of reports and confirmation with line departments at the district and provincial levels.
  • Provide reports from trainings, workshops, practical sessions, and assessments conducted in communities.
  • Assist the regional program coordinator during the preparation of plans and reports.
  • Submit technical reports and provide technical assistance to the M&E Unit in the preparation of reports.
  • Document lessons learned and success stories in coordination with M&E staff.
  • Represent NAC in coordination meetings with government and non-government agencies.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Additional duties may be assigned based on the nature of NAC projects by the direct supervisor.

Note: Priority will be given to the local community.

Job Requirements:

Languages Required:

Fluent in Pashto.

Fluent in Dari.

Good at English speaking and writing.

Qualifications Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Animal Husbandry/Veterinary.

Work Experience:

  • Four years of experience in livestock projects.
  • More than four years of demonstrated success in livestock/animal husbandry training.
  • Excellent experience in coordinating programs at the district level.
  • Complete experience with household surveys.
  • Good experience setting up group discussions to gather information.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, promoting collaboration and teamwork.
  • Integrity and accountability.
  • Good communication.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Works well under pressure and meets tight deadlines.
