Job Description: Assistant Construction Engineer

Role Purpose:

As the Assistant Construction Engineer, you will oversee daily construction activities, ensuring the quality of ongoing projects. You’ll play a vital role in maintaining international standards in new development, maintenance, and repair works in the targeted area.

Scope of Role:

Reports to: Construction Engineer

Staff reporting: Foreman, CB Staff

Matrix Reporting: WASH Coordinator

Key Areas of Accountability:

Need Assessment:

Conduct technical assessments of construction facilities to be rehabilitated or built.

Responsible for the technical aspects of needs assessments for WASH and infrastructural facilities.

Construction:

  • Oversee construction, rehabilitation, maintenance, and repair works.
  • Supervise selected contractors and work closely with them to ensure quality work within agreed timeframes.
  • Develop structural designs and Bill of Quantities for tendering.
  • Ensure the quality and quantity of construction materials meet standards.
  • Monitor and report on the quality of work produced by contractors.
  • Manage relationships with partners and contractors.
  • Ensure activities are child-safe and adhere to health and safety standards.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent.

Minimum 3 years of professional experience in construction.

Experience and Skills:

Essential:

  • Practical knowledge in masonry, plumbing, carpentry, and pumping systems.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and ArchieCAD.
  • Planning and organization skills.
  • Ability to listen, adapt, and work well with people.
  • Fluency in English and local languages.
  • Community mobilization skills.
  • Computer literate with knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Desirable:

Experience in the NGO sector.

Knowledge of supervision techniques.

Fluent in oral and written English, Kurdish, and Arabic.
