Job Description:
New Business Development Manager
Role Purpose:
The New Business Development Manager will report to the Head of New Business Development, focusing on developing external relationships with local, regional, and global key stakeholders to drive Save the Children’s business development efforts in Afghanistan. Responsibilities include portfolio analysis, donor engagement and funding strategies, tracking donor funding opportunities, and leading proposal development processes. The role also involves providing technical support to the Partnership Unit.

Key Areas of Accountabilities:
New Business Development (30%):
Analyze the current portfolio to inform a better funding strategy
Identify and track upcoming funding opportunities through research and donor engagement
Cultivate business relationships with external stakeholders and potential partners
Implement the funding strategy, ensuring coordination among country office teams
Work with thematic leads to develop thematic funding plans and track their implementation
Local Donor and Funding Partners Engagement (10%):
Prepare materials to facilitate donor engagement and enhance SCI’s reputation
Monitor news media and donor/government sources for potential changes impacting operations
Provide technical support to the Partnership Unit for sub-awarding and collaboration with other organizations
Proposal Development (40%):
Lead interdepartmental coordination for project design and proposals development
Collaborate with the Awards team and thematic advisors to develop and monitor the proposal development calendar
Write sections of proposals and review inputs for quality control before submission
Ensure the use of BD and quality assurance tools for effective proposal development
Strategic Information Management (10%):
Share accurate and timely overviews of funding priorities and pipeline health across the country office and Regional Office
Contribute to institutional learning by documenting and sharing practices on bid management
Humanitarian Response (10%):
Support strategic resources mobilization for Emergencies within the country
Deploy immediately to support funding coordination in the first phase of major regional responses as required

Job Requirements:
Essential:
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in both emergency and development contexts
- Proven experience leading large-scale complex proposals and engaging with donors
- Knowledge of major institutional donors, budgeting, eligibility issues, compliance management, and reporting
- Strong planning, management, and coordination skills
- Excellent communication/presentation skills in English
- Computer literate (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, Internet Explorer)
Desirable:
Experience in donor mapping and knowledge of the Afghanistan context
Experience in strategic portfolio analysis
