Job Description:

Job Purpose:

The Internal Audit and Control Officer plays a crucial role in developing, directing, and coordinating comprehensive internal audit and control operations. This position supports the improvement of operational compliance, risk management, internal controls, and policies within Kandahar Refugee Organization (KRO).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and monitor the Internal Audit function and operations.
  • Design, implement, and monitor processes required in audit work (annual plan, standard working papers, reporting format, and protocols).
  • Support and strengthen Risk Management processes in coordination with the compliance department.
  • Regularly review KRO’s Internal Controls for effectiveness and report on areas of improvement.
  • Monitor management response to audit reviews, ensuring timely implementation of agreed audit actions and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with external or visiting auditors, providing support for their audit processes.
  • Analyze success factors and risks facing the Organization, reporting them to management and providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Conduct Partner and Subaward audits to ensure compliance with donor and Organization rules and regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with all organizational SOPs and regulations governing the organization’s work.
  • Track and monitor adherence to KRO’s policies, including the Code of Ethics, Anti-Corruption Policy, Finance Policy, Logistics Policy, and Safeguarding and Child Protection policies.
  • Ensure timely completion and documentation of six months and annual appraisals.
  • Keep Supervisor informed of any initiatives or difficulties relating to job responsibilities.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in BBA or a relevant field.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a similar role (2 years’ specific experience in internal audit/control of NGO with 3 or more years in logistics, finance, or accounting).
  • Knowledge of auditing, compliance, and internal control.
  • Familiarity with finance and logistics operations, including contracting rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to train and mentor staff, partners, and communities.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills (written and oral).
  • Fluent in English language is a must.
  • Independence, integrity, and objectivity.
  • Ability to travel 20%-40%.
