New Way Social & Development Organization, established in 2011 and registered with the Ministry of Economy, Government of Afghanistan, is a Kabul-based development, advocacy, and humanitarian organization. With programming hubs in northern and northeastern provinces, the organization focuses on empowering vulnerable and marginalized communities affected by war, natural calamities, poverty, and injustice. Their strategy includes integrated development covering socio-economic, cultural, and good governance aspects, with community empowerment as the core.

Job Description:

As the Finance and Accounting Manager at New Way Social and Development Organization, you will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities, ensuring compliance with organizational accounting systems, reporting requirements, and donor regulations. Reporting to the Deputy Executive Director, you will closely coordinate with the Internal Control Manager. Key responsibilities include:

Finance and Accounting:

  1. Ensure accurate financial, contractual, and administrative reporting in compliance with donors’ rules and regulations.
  2. Oversee day-to-day coordination of financial activities for cost efficiency.
  3. Manage the organization’s financial accounts, payroll, budget, cash receipts, and financial assets.
  4. Handle transactions, debts, and conduct cash flow forecasting.
  5. Prepare and present financial reports to executives.
  6. Guide project team members on financial requirements in compliance with donor agencies and NSDO procedures.
  7. Lead the development, monitoring, and review of project budgets.
  8. Facilitate external audits and ensure proper maintenance of financial records.
  9. Develop, implement, and maintain accounting systems, policies, and procedures.
  10. Contribute to work plans and annual budgets for project activities.
  11. Ensure appropriate direction of donors’ resources to project priorities.

Reporting & Audits:

  • Ensure timely submission of monthly reports.
  • Coordinate the compilation of periodic and monthly financial reports and statements.
  • Prepare budget revisions in coordination with provincial managers.
  • Prepare financial records for internal and external audits.

Budgeting:

  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of budgets and associated reports to donors.
  • Review and revise the budget with donors, controlling actual expenses vs. budget.

Other Support Services:

  • Provide support to the Head of Operations in finance-related matters.
  • Develop and update local forms and reports based on requirements.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of emergencies and react appropriately.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Business Administration or a related field.
  • ACCA certification is an asset.
  • 3 years of related work experience with a master’s degree; 5 years with a bachelor’s degree.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in local languages and English.
  • Compliance with organizational rules, regulations, and anti-harassment policy.
  • Morally and disciplinary fit for the job.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
