Job Description:

Role Purpose:

As the Education Project Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of education projects, ensuring effective budget management, internal control, stakeholder engagement, and leading the development of donor reports.

Scope of Role:

Reports to: Deputy Head of Office, with a dotted line to the Sr. Education Manager

Staff reporting to this post: Education Coordinators

Budget Responsibilities: Yes

Role Dimensions: MEAL, HR, Supply Chain, Programme Operations, Finance, PDQ

Key Accountabilities:

Program Implementation and Monitoring:

  • Provide strong leadership to education project staff for successful project delivery.
  • Make informed decisions in fluid environments for project implementation.
  • Establish effective monitoring and performance management systems, ensuring compliance with donor requirements.
  • Maintain efficient operating systems, including safety and security management and child safeguarding.

Technical Capacity:

Ensure quality implementation of project components with a focus on inclusiveness, budget development, and policies.

Identify needs for inclusive education, including equipment for children and adults with disabilities.

Budget Management:

Effectively manage project budgets in compliance with donor requirements.

Identify potential expense variances and recommend adjustments.

Reporting and Documentation:

Lead the team in generating donor narrative and financial reports.

Ensure key project documentation is archived at provincial and field levels.

Human Resource Management:

Ensure appropriate staffing and support capacity building of staff.

Provide updated job descriptions, work plans, and objectives for direct reports.

Coordination, Business Development & Representation:

Establish meaningful relationships with stakeholders such as government departments, UN agencies, and international organizations.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or Social Science; Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years of relevant managerial experience with international organizations.
  • Strong understanding of Pashto, Dari, and English languages.
  • Ability to travel inside Afghanistan and related districts.

Desirable:
