Job Description: Site Supervisor

General Position Summary:

The Site Supervisor plays a vital role in supporting and supervising daily construction activities on WASH and community infrastructure projects. Reporting to the Field Engineer, the Site Supervisor oversees construction, maintenance, and repair activities, ensuring compliance with project requirements and technical standards.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct household and site/community need and technical assessments.
  2. Supervise site teams, contractors, and laborers to ensure safe and timely implementation to required standards.
  3. Identify beneficiary needs related to WASH facilities and community infrastructure.
  4. Conduct site surveys, apply design/drawings at the site, and ensure daily monitoring of construction quality.
  5. Provide regular updates on progress to supervisors and report issues promptly.
  6. Manage safety and security of the construction site, workshops, and associated areas.
  7. Undertake any other duties assigned by the line manager.

  • Effectively communicate to meet overall project targets and donor obligations.

  • Ensure compliance with security procedures and policies, maintaining a secure environment.

Organizational Learning:

  • Commit 5% of time to learning activities that benefit both Mercy Corps and individuals.

Accountability to Beneficiaries:

  • Support efforts toward accountability, engaging beneficiary communities in project design, monitoring, and evaluation.

Accountability:

  • Reports directly to: Field Engineer
  • Works directly with: Community Hygiene Promotion Workers

Job Requirements:

Hard Skills:

  • Bachelor in Civil/Sanitary Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in supervising construction projects.
  • Experience with NGOs, particularly in refugee/IDP contexts.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written local languages; good English skills desirable.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work in a complex multicultural environment.
  • Planning, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of local communities and customary rules.

Soft Skills:

  • Attention to detail, meeting deadlines, problem-solving independently and cooperatively.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Strong computer knowledge (MS Office).
  • Strong communication and time management skills.
  • Willingness to travel to Mercy Corps sub-field offices.
