Mercy Corps works in places of transition, addressing conflict, disaster, political upheaval, or economic collapse. Operating in Afghanistan since 1986, we provide emergency relief, build resilience, and promote sustainable change through community-led initiatives.

Program/Department Summary:

The EmpowerED program, funded by GiZ, aims to increase access to quality vocational training for vulnerable youth, including women. Operating over 20 months, the program targets master trainers from private sector companies in Kabul, Parwan, and Herat, establishing courses based on in-depth market assessment.

Success Summary:

The successful Program Coordinator will lead by example, be proactive, possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and manage their time wisely. They will demonstrate excellent stewardship, compliance with Mercy Corps regulations, and maintain strong relationships with other departments and stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities:

  • As the Program Coordinator, you will:
  • Oversee day-to-day coordination, implementation, and management of the program in Herat.
  • Ensure activities align with program deliverables, overseeing budget, staff, and resources.
  • Monitor and support partners’ implementation, liaising with program participants, communities, and stakeholders.
  • Act as a focal point between implementing partners and MC support teams.
  • Work closely with other Mercy Corps departments for seamless program implementation.

Job Requirements:

General:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business administration, education, economics, finance, or international development. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 4-5 years of relevant experience in the non-formal education/TVET sector, with preferred experience in a managerial position.
  • Strong budget management, report writing, and program coordination skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of spoken and written English.
  • Advanced computer skills in basic office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Soft Skills:

Proactive, highly organized, and possesses strong leadership and communication skills.

Takes initiative, requires minimal supervision, and has a teachable spirit.

Good sense of urgency, ability to work under pressure, and deliver high-quality results with a positive attitude.
