Job Description:

General Position Summary:

As a Program Assistant under the direct supervision of Program Officers, you will be responsible for implementing day-to-day program activities, including WASH, Cash, and NFI. Your role involves close collaboration with stakeholders and conducting field visits to ensure effective program implementation.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  1. Implement day-to-day program activities, including WASH, Cash, and NFI.
  2. Work closely with program stakeholders and assist in achieving program deliverables.
  3. Conduct WASH assessments, develop BoQ, work plans, and hygiene promotion activities.
  4. Initiate and track procurement processes for infrastructure projects, hygiene materials, and emergency services.
  5. Support Program Officers in daily monitoring of WASH infrastructure work and progress tracking.
  6. Coordinate with the MEL Department for data collection and maintain program databases.
  7. Contribute to community mobilization and hygiene promotion tools and methods.
  8. Manage program filing system, ensuring confidentiality and meeting reporting needs.
  9. Work with Program Officers to ensure timely submission of internal reports.
  10. Maintain understanding of the contextual situation in program areas for effective implementation.
  11. Compile, store, and update participant data regularly for reports and assessments.
  12. Perform data compilation for weekly/monthly progress reports and assessments.
  13. Conduct fieldwork for surveys and contribute to capacity building for community workers.
  14. Distribute hygiene kits, conduct hygiene promotion sessions, and support WASH capacity building.
  15. Produce reports as required and perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Dedicate 5% of time to learning activities benefiting Mercy Corps and personal development.

Support efforts toward accountability to program participants and international standards.

Conduct yourself professionally, respecting local laws, customs, and policies.

Accountability:

Reports directly to Program Officer.

Works directly with WASH and Cash team, CARM, MEL, Operations, Finance Teams, Security, and other sectorial leads.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s in Engineering, Water Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related degree.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in emergency WASH and/or Cash and NFI response.
  • Familiarity with Afghanistan WASH and Cash standards and international SPHERE standards.
  • Extensive knowledge and work experience in Afghanistan, preferably in southern provinces.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently with attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Honest and committed to compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Good knowledge of English and Pashto, Dari desired.
  • Proficient in basic office programs and engineering software like AutoCAD.
