Job Description:

Job Summary:

As an Engineer (Watershed) at Islamic Relief Worldwide Afghanistan, you will play a key role in steering the project team on watershed management and implementing small-scale watershed interventions. Your responsibilities will involve liaison with relevant ministries and departments, identification and execution of suitable watershed interventions, participation in planning and proposal development, technical input provision, documentation, relationship building with local authorities, and ensuring the quality of work output.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Liaise with the Ministry of Agriculture, soil conservation, check dams, and extension department.
  2. Identify, design, estimate, and execute suitable watershed interventions for Ridge to Valley Soil Water Conservation Treatments in the project area.
  3. Participate in planning, proposal development, and coordination in Detailed Project Report Preparation for Integrated Village Development Program.
  4. Prepare Soil Water Conservation allied proposals with survey approximation.
  5. Provide technical input to the team and the community for effective implementation.
  6. Document Natural Resource Management activities.
  7. Build relationships with local authorities for scheme convergence.
  8. Collect data and write reports for related activities.
  9. Prepare and review drawings and specifications.
  10. Design or oversee projects involving potable water provision and wastewater/sewage disposal.
  11. Prepare environmental documentation for regulatory compliance, data management, analysis, and fieldwork.
  12. Write technical and design reports.
  13. Attend meetings with regulatory organizations and stakeholders to address engineering design/permitting issues.
  14. Ensure the quality of work output.
  15. Perform any other team responsibilities as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Graduate in Civil/Environmental Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in Watershed Development.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with attention to details and critical thinking ability.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of project teams.
  • Ability to plan, design, and execute Ridge to Valley Watershed work.
  • Recognize geology and geography to identify suitable watershed structures, prepare plans, estimates, and execute them accurately.
  • Experience with specifying erosion control measures and construction observation is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with English language and local languages.
