Job Description:
Project Background:
The Afghanistan Value Chains Program (AVCP), a USAID-funded initiative implemented by DAI Global, LLC (DAI), aims to support sustainable agriculture-led economic growth across Afghanistan. AVCP collaborates with anchor firms in livestock and crop value chains, employing a market systems development approach through co-designed agreements known as ‘Deal Notes.’ These agreements address critical constraints, driving project outcomes and promoting efficiency, profitability, and strengthening of value chains, directly impacting rural economies, households, and livelihoods.
Job Requirements:
Objectives and Duties:
- Identify constraints within livestock businesses related to production, processing, and marketing.
- Analyze the business environment, map market actors, and identify challenges and opportunities.
- Research and advise on appropriate technologies for introduction.
- Assess the supply chain, identify gaps and challenges, and suggest solutions.
- Encourage SMEs to invest in technology improvements.
- Facilitate access to technologies and negotiate purchase agreements between suppliers and businesses.
- Collaborate with Value Chain Leads to design activities and lobby businesses for co-investment during drafting Deal Notes.
- Coordinate with technical team members to link businesses with local and international markets, improve food safety, and enhance relationships with other value chain actors.
- Provide technical input on the development of training programs for processing technologies.
- Assist businesses in selecting and using services for development and profitability.
- Contribute to project activities, planning, reports, and deliverables.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Agriculture Value Chains, or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years of experience working with livestock or agriculture business.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Agriculture, Business, or a related area with a minimum of 7 years of experience.
- Three to five years of experience implementing donor projects, preferably in agriculture and enterprise market systems.
- Previous experience working with SMEs in an advisory or support role, preferably in the livestock sector.
- Knowledge of operational excellence best practices.
- Fluency in English, Dari, and Pashto.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Organizational skills – able to manage multiple tasks.
- Fluent communication / interpersonal skills to interact at all levels.
- Ability and flexibility to travel to the regions.
- Effective Operational Proficiency in the English language.
