Job Description:

  1. As a Vegetable Value Chain Officer, you will play a pivotal role in analyzing and enhancing the local vegetable value chain. Key responsibilities include:
  2. Analyzing the local vegetable value chain, identifying key actors, market dynamics, and improvement opportunities.
  3. Evaluating existing value chain systems, pinpointing strengths and weaknesses.
  4. Conducting market assessments for identified products/services and establishing market linkages for growth and sustainability.
  5. Developing training curriculums and materials for vegetable farmers, covering topics like crop management, pest control, organic farming, and value chain best practices.
  6. Organizing and conducting training sessions for farmers, focusing on both on-farming and off-farming aspects.
  7. Providing technical assistance to ensure the effective implementation of training outcomes.
  8. Building and maintaining strong relationships with vegetable farmers, input suppliers, processors, retailers, and other stakeholders in the value chain.
  9. Organizing meetings, workshops, and training sessions to foster knowledge sharing and collaboration.
  10. Collaborating with the project manager and community mobilizer to establish VESA and WABCs, promoting community engagement and collective action.
  11. Supporting VESA and WABC members in their roles, facilitating economic and social development activities.
  12. Establishing Farmer Field Schools as practical learning platforms for local farmers, organizing sessions and field visits to share knowledge and best practices.
  13. Collecting and analyzing data related to vegetable production, market trends, and value chain performance.
  14. Promoting innovative technologies and sustainable practices in vegetable production and processing.
  15. Encouraging the adoption of digital tools for data collection and management.
  16. Ensuring appropriate and timely implementation of vegetable value chain activities.
  17. Developing and maintaining a database of supply chain and value chain actors.
  18. Contributing to project work plans, benchmarks, and deliverables.
  19. Managing project resources, including budget, materials, and human resources.
  20. Preparing reports on project activities and outcomes, ensuring compliance with donor guidelines.
  21. Coordinating horizontal and vertical linkages between value chain actors.
  22. Assisting in forming value chain partnerships and networks.
  23. Supporting and overseeing the activities of sub-sector Associations and Institutions.
  24. Promoting peace and conflict-sensitive project design and implementation.
  25. Performing other duties assigned by the Project Manager.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in agriculture, rural development, natural resources management, environmental studies, economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven expertise and experience in community resilience and Agro business value chain development, conflict sensitivity, market analysis, value chain upgrading, quality standards.
  • Excellent leadership, management, and communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to adapt to changing situations and cope with challenges.
  • Excellent report writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise, and quality reports for internal management and external reporting to the donor.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Dari and/or Pashto is an asset.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and other relevant project management software applications.
